ToolScope is a assistance system for machine tools.

It can be used for setting up operating processes, for process monitoring and for quality assurance. Its measuring logs, monitoring curves and documenting PDFs enable complete proof of quality for production on machine tools. Data can be acquired and handed out as CSV and as a real time stream. The data processing core of the device can be run as a seperate product ToolScope Server on Windows and Linux operating systems.

The ToolScope is operated via the machine control panel or a touchscreen.

The machine operator can use the ToolScope to view machine-internal sensor data (torque, axis position, etc.), just as with an oscilloscope. The device can also be used as a data logger and creates measuring logs using the recorded measurement data. In addition to machine-internal sensor data, it is also possible to save data about analog sensors (e.g. mechanical vibrations).

The ToolScope is connected to the machine control system and is permanently installed in the machine's switch cabinet. It receives its data from the control via a fieldbus connection. The below figure shows the system structure.

The device is controlled via the machine control panel. It is also possible to control the ToolScope from any desktop PCs in the corporate network.

ToolScope is specifically designed to read out machine-internal sensors and to process monitoring in real time. The necessary measurement data is provided by a special software module (compile cycle) or PLC supplement for control of machine tools.

The measurement data available varies and depends on the control system and machine used. In general, measurement data can be recorded for all axes that are regulated by the control system. Typically the torque of a drive is taken into account for monitoring. Additionally - dependant on the control type - other signals can be read. Typical examples::

  • Torque-forming engine current
  • Effective power
  • Actual speed, target speed
  • Actual position, target position

Signals from power, acceleration, mechanical vibration, temperature or flow sensors can be recorded via analog inputs. Data recording is carried out at up to 1 kHz..Higher freqiencies need special preparation. The count of analog inputs and outputs is configurable.
