The idle detection is implemented as a monitoring method.. In this operating mode, the ToolScope detects when your main spindle is idling. In this case, the device sends an increased override value to your machine.

As soon as the tool in the main spindle comes into contact with the material, the override value is reset to 100%.

Before the ToolScope can decide whether your machine is idling, it must briefly be able to observe idling. It then adjusts itself accordingly. The one-time observation of the signal is hereinafter called "learning".

During learning, a "Switch-over threshold" is determined in particular. When the spindle torque exceeds this threshold, the ToolScope assumes that it is in contact with material.

1.1      Operation of idle detection

As shown in Figure 50, idle detection shows the monitored sensor signal (red, top), the switch-over threshold (green, top), and the override value (red, bottom).

The configuration view mainly differs from the control view in that a switch-over threshold can be defined, at which you can switch between two override values.

 Configurable parameters

In the left-hand area you can use the drop-down menus in the "Sensor selection" area to select a trigger and a control value. The "Trigger" channel describes the signal upon whose occurrence the monitoring will be activated (flank change from 0 to 1). The "Controlled signal" channel describes the signal to be monitored.

In the right-hand area, use the "Process selection" field to select the process whose settings are to be displayed. Below this, the individual parameters of the respective process are displayed.

Switch-over threshold

When the value specified here is reached, the values that you have defined for "Override before switch-over threshold" and "Override after switch-over threshold" enter into force. The unit of measurement for this value is the same as the unit of measurement for the Y axis. The switch-over threshold is displayed as a green line.

Override before switch-over threshold

This parameter modifies the feed speed defined in the NC program before the switch-over threshold is reached.  The value is specified as a percentage of the defined feed speed.

Override after switch-over threshold

This parameter modifies the feed speed defined in the NC program after the switch-over threshold is reached. The value is specified as a percentage of the defined feed speed.

Switch-on delay [s]

This parameter determines how many seconds after the start of the process the switch-over threshold settings should become active.

Minimum holding time [s]

This parameter determines for how many seconds after reaching the switch-over threshold the feed speed defined in "Override after switch-over threshold" should be held.

Ignore after switching back [s]

This parameter determines the length of the delay after the switch-over threshold is exceeded again before continuing again with the feed speed defined in "Override before switch-over threshold".

Number of processes to be analyzed during the teaching process

As soon as the checkmark is set next to this parameter and the process is observed the next time, the monitoring forgets the previous data and relearns the newly entered number of processes.
